April 2010, The Mileage Company has announced a new charity partnership with the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), a leading conservation organisation.
Like rainforests, Wetlands play an important role in slowing climate change, storing 35% of the world's carbon despite covering just 6% of the Earth's land area.Andrew Swaffield, Managing Director - The Mileage Company
With donations already topping £40,000 for the WWT, the money will support environmental projects, like protecting the world's rarest duck (the Madagascar Pochard) from extinction.
Money has been raised through The Mileage Company's Airmiles scheme, thanks to the success of two eco-initiatives - mobile phone recycling and Our Green Shop.
These allow Airmiles members to collect miles by recycling and shopping for sustainable products. And the £80,000 profits collected from these initiatives to date, have been split equally between the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and The Mileage Company's other partner charity, Rainforest Concern.
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust has over 60 years' experience of wetland conservation and attracts over a million visitors a year to its specialist wetland centres.
