Airmiles members swap mobiles for miles

In August 2009, The Mileage Company's Airmiles scheme launched their mobile phone recycling programme, giving members miles for their old mobiles.

We know that Airmiles members want to boost their balance in ways that fit into their lifestyles and match their values. We're pleased to offer this new collection opportunity, which rewards our members for avoiding unnecessary waste.Andrea Burchett, Director of Relationship Marketing and Insight - The Mileage Company

Airmiles members can now collect up to 750 miles by recycling their mobile phones.

The average UK consumer replaces or upgrades their mobile every 18 months and most end up in landfill, but Airmiles members can recycle and get miles. All profits are reinvested into UN-approved environmental projects.

750 miles is enough for a free return flight to cities like Paris and Brussels. Members can see how many miles they'll get at www.airmiles.co.uk/recycling, and this depends on the phone's make, model and condition.

The scheme will be managed in partnership with ShP Limited, a leading e-waste recycling company. All phones received will be reconditioned and sent to developing countries or recycled for their parts, in line with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.
